Selva Zoque
The deep green beaches of Selva Zoque (Zoque Forest) in southern Mexico can be considered the birthplace of chocolate. Cocoa has been grown here for more than 4,000 years. The Zoque and their ancestors – the Olmecs – watched the stars, kept an advanced calendar, they invented the sauna and a ball game. And they created a potent sacred drink from a forest fruit they called “kakaw”. That was the birth of chocolate.
By supporting Zoque and Tzotzil farmers and helping to sustainably manage the Zelva Zoque rainforest, the farmers and Original Beans are helping to revive the original cocoa tradition.
Why Original Beans?
Original Beans not only wants to provide the highest quality chocolate, but also wants it to be sustainably and fairly produced. Not only is attention paid to training projects for farmers, the preservation of rare cocoa varieties is also important to Original Beans. To reduce their carbon footprint, the company is taking measures. The paper packaging is made of 100% recycled material and the wrapper is fully compostable.
