Peru Geisha Coffee Beans from San Ignacio, Cajamarca

Coffee producer Praxides Pintado has spent decades farming coffee in La Coipa, Peru, building on a family tradition while gradually shifting from conventional production to specialty coffee. His story is one of continuous improvement, going from planting traditional Typica and Bourbon varieties to pivoting to the hardy Catimor after severe pest infestation. After years of growing these varieties chosen for resilience and yield over quality, he was inspired by the success of Geisha coffees in the region and invested in 2,000 Geisha trees on his farm, El Guayaquil.

His coffee is meticulously processed through selective hand-picking and density sorting. This elegant Geisha coffee went through a 72-hour anaerobic fermentation with carefully monitored drying and resting periods, all designed to highlight the variety’s delicate aromatics, clarity, and balance.

Praxides’ coffee made it to us in Rotterdam via our friend Gian Carlo, who brings great pride and joy in sharing the quality of Peruvian coffee.

Why is Geisha coffee so special?

Geisha is one of the most celebrated coffee varieties in the world, prized for its intensely floral aromas, vibrant acidity, and complex flavors that can resemble jasmine, bergamot, tropical fruit, and tea. Originally from Ethiopia and later popularized in Panama, it gained international recognition for consistently achieving record-breaking scores in coffee competitions. Its exceptional cup quality, combined with lower yields and demanding growing conditions, makes Geisha coffees both rare and highly sought after.
