Coffee from Mt. Kilimanjaro

In the Kiswahili language, “Tumaini” means hope. And that’s exactly what the Africa Plantation Kilimanjaro (APK) Estate brings to the Mt. Kilimanjaro region. The estate comprises 7 farms, and is dedicated to improving the lives of the community through regenerative farming, combining perennial coffee crops with other agricultural crops like maize, French beans, hemp, and sunflowers to stabilize soil, water, and biodiversity. Much of the estate’s land is also reserved for forest preservation.

APK also partnered with the EFICO and Herencia Foundations for the Kilimanjaro Water & Food For All Project in 2023, a two-year initiative to develop a scalable model for water efficiency and regenerative agriculture. The project aims to improve living conditions for over 2,700 families and expand farmland with better agricultural management and irrigation systems. With an increase in farming productivity, the positive effects will spread to rural employment, income generation, and living standards for the community.

True to their philosophy, this washed coffee lot was processed in a semi-submersible channel, which saves 85% more water than the traditional washing method. The coffee is then 50% sun dried and 50% mechanically dried.
